ECC Files Complain To NEC Regarding Early Campaigning By Individual Politicians

As the National Elections Commission (NEC) warming up for the upcoming most contested midterm senatorial elections on December 8, 2020, and yet awaited pronouncement for the official opening of campaign dates, some aspirants have resolved to making their declaration known by holding rallies which resembles political campaigns as NEC remains mute on such happenings in Monrovia and its environs.

Political analysts and observers are becoming to ponder over such actions on the part of aspirants, wondering as to whether the electoral body of Liberia, the National Elections Commission is in the know of such in the absence of its official announcement for the opening of campaigns.

Over the past months, aspirants from various political parties including the ruling Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC) are showing their financial strength to overwhelmingly capture the poverty glued voters and electorates to win their votes in the December 8, 2020 midterm senatorial elections.

As a result of all of these activities which resembles a way of campaigning individuals for the upcoming senatorial elections, the head of the Elections Coordinating Committee (ECC), Oscar Bloh has filed a complaint to the National Elections Commission (NEC) expressing his institution’s reservation regarding the current political trend where politicians are carrying out early campaigning in the absence of the NEC required pronouncement for the start of political campaigns in Liberia ahead of the December 8.

With this latest report from the ECC to the NEC, it is now cleared that politicians are running campaign with the input of the National Elections Commission (NEC), a situation which seems to violate the election laws of Liberia, while the NEC continues to remain silent on this issue.
