Death toll rises as Florence leaves path of destruction

By Melkorka Licea|

High waters flood a car as Tropical Storm Florence comes ashore in downtown Wilmington, North Carolina.

The two unidentified victims were killed by the unrelenting storm pummeling the Carolinas on Harker’s Island Friday morning, Carteret County Emergency Services told the Charlotte Observer.

Additional details have yet to be released, but authorities said the victims did not drown.

Officials fear the number could rise as the some 400-mile wide storm crawls westward.

Florence was at a virtual standstill early Saturday and could dump up to 3.5 feet of rain and cause dangerous flooding.
