(Prensa Latina) Cameroon, Liberia, Morocco, Nigeria, Sierra Leone, Zambia and Zimbabwe will start antibody testing for Covid-19 next week, an official source confirmed Friday.
According to information from the Center for Disease Control and Prevention in Africa, a strategy will be implemented by these nations to determine how widespread the infection is on the continent.
In addition to that program, a continental process is under way to establish a clinical trials consortium and then begin procurement and financing of vaccines, added the African Union health agency based in the capital.
So far, there are 9.4 million documented laboratory tests in the region, around 1.1 million identified infections and more than 24,730 deaths caused by the disease, figures that are constantly growing.
South Africa, considered the most developed state in the area, has an accumulated total of 572,865, more than 50 percent of Africa and the fifth largest in the world, behind the United States, Brazil, India and Russia, say official sources.
This southern African country, along with Egypt, Nigeria, Ghana, Algeria, Morocco, Kenya, Ethiopia, Cameroon and Cote d’Ivoire, is the worst off.
