The Civil Servant Union of Liberia (CSUL) has called on the Government to ensure that all salaries arrears for civil servants are paid before December 15, 2019.
The CSUL said failure by the Government to ensure that salaries are made current to “alleviate the untold or unbearable suffering” civil servants have been subjected to will lead to a national go-slow action.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, the CSUL said the go-slow will include health workers, teachers and local government workers across the 15 counties of Liberia.
“The Civil Servant Union of Liberia calls on the Government of Liberia to fully respect the spirit and intent of the memorandum of understanding entered into between all who constitute members of the CSUL and the GoL on October 19, 2019 to ensure the regularization of the payment of civil servant salaries,” the CSUL stated.
The Union, however, stated that it attaches serious interest to the wellbeing of its members and, as such, it will not sit idly and allow them swim hopelessly in the “bottomless pit” without salary during this festive season.
However, authorities of the Ministry of Finance have since disclosed that government will pay all civil servants their October and November salaries before Christmas, which falls on December 25.
