CAMPAIGN 2023: President Weah Orders ‘Immediate Electrification’ Of Homes

President George Weah has ordered the immediate electrification of homes and streets in district #17, Montserrado County.

The commencing of the electrification according to the Liberian Leader will be next Monday, August 21, 2023.

Since the end of the Liberian civil conflict some 20 years now, most part of District #17 located in the western outskirt of the nation’s capital, Monrovia, has been without electricity.

But speaking Saturday at the end of his Montserrado County campaign tour in the district after being confronted by the citizens who complained about being in darkness for years, president Weah said it is the right of everyone to get light in this time of the world.

The pronouncement  according to him was no more a promise to the district but it is a project with a commencement date of the week of August 21.

“We are not doing this because we are campaigning,” the President said. “We are doing this because it is our responsibility and obligation to you as our people; but we have to begin now because materials sent for months back for the project are available right now, and since we are here in our district, we have to tell you the good news.”

He added: “Some politicians will tell you we are doing this because we are campaigning. People who couldn’t give you electricity for 12 years will tell you it is because we are campaigning. Were we campaigning when he gave electricity to dozens of other communities? I am called Darkness Medicine by citizens who benefited from our electricity program. For 12 years, you cried for electricity and they ignored you. So what’s wrong when we hear your cries and the cries of other citizens and do as you want? And those who withheld electricity from you are coming to you to vote for you. Beware!”

The citizens lavished praises on the President and the CDC Government for always including them in the development programs of the country.

One said: “I am out of words to express my happiness, and the happiness of our people, on this day. How long we cried for electricity. How long we were ignored and brushed aside. Here in Banjor, Brewerville, Virginia and other communities, our number one priority is electricity. After we were ignored for 12 years by the UP government, the CDC Government gave us roads, markets bridges and other things. Here again is President Weah who is ready to always listen to his people’s call and requests. We adore him. We assure him, this election is once again his victory. We are so happy. George Weah is truly Darkness Medicine, no doubt.”

Other resident told Journalists: “It would interest you to note that with all our good buildings, entertainment centers, homes and other infrastructure, electricity remains a luxury. That we now have today—and I can say we now have because President Weah never said what he would not do—we thank God and thank the President so much. Other presidents or leaders could have ignored us and give us sweet talk. They would have promised and never do. But President Weah has agreed to electrify our homes. We and our children and children’s children will ever be grateful. What a great day for us in District #17.”
