Burkina Faso: Despite ECOWAS Sanctions, Army Strikes In 4th West African Country

Despite the recent ECOWAS sanctions against Mali and Guninea over military rule, the Army struck in Burkina Faso yesterday, arresting and detaining  President Roch Marc Christian Kabore.

The takeover of Burkina Faso by the Army makes it the fourth West African country with military rule.

The four countries in West Africa ruled by the military include Mali, Guniea, Chad and Burkina Faso.

The soldiers leading the coup saying his Kabore’s government failed to support them during the country’s years-long conflict with armed groups.

This is even as the Nigerian Government has denounced yesterday’s military takeover of government in Burkina Faso, stressing that the unfortunate development subverts the constitutional order of the country.

A statement issued yesterday by the spokesperson of the Nigerian Ministry of Foreign Affair, Francisca K. Omayuli said the Federal Government of Nigeria received with grave concern, reports of a coup d’état in the Republic of Burkina Faso, saying that Nigeria strongly condemned the overthrow of the democratically elected government of President Roch Marc Kabore and his detention.
