Biden is expected to make a decision as early as this week

US President Joe Biden is considering the deployment of several thousand US troops, ships, and aircraft in the Baltic States and Eastern Europe as The New York Times reported citing its own sources in the presidential administration.

According to the source, the US is considering expanding its military presence in the region amid growing fears about a possible Russian invasion of Ukraine.

Senior Pentagon officials offered Biden several options that would move the US military much closer to Russia during a meeting on Saturday at the president’s country residence at Camp David.

These options include sending between 1,000 and 5,000 troops to Eastern Europe, with the possibility of increasing that number tenfold if the situation deteriorates.

Biden is expected to make his decision this week, the source added.

The agency points out that none of the options under consideration foresees the deployment of additional US troops on the territory of Ukraine itself.

On January 23, it was reported that the United States will not impose preventive sanctions against Russia due to a build-up of Russian troops near Ukraine’s borders.

As we reported, Estonia will send Ukraine Javelins, the US-made missile launchers in the next few weeks.
