As the ruling Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC) preparing to making all the necessary arrangements for the primaries gearing up for the midterm senatorial elections, another stalwart of the tripartite party Samuel Worzie has warned strongly against attempts to unnecessarily manipulate the process resulting to what he termed as political disgrace to the party.
Mr. Worzie, a former Information Minister for Information Services who has also declared his intention for the impending 20202 senatorial race said he will not subscribe to any acts that will undermine transparency of the primary by those he claimed to be close to President George Weah.
Mr. Worzi warned against unnecessary influence and manipulation, noting candidates will have the partisans to contend with through proper evaluation and scrutinizing in house to avoid a political disgrace.
Since the appointment of the primary committee headed by the party’s Youth League Chairman and Monrovia City Mayor Jefferson Koijee, there has been outcry from members of the CDC over what they foresee as a process to be highly fraudulent and manipulated.
The first outburst came from now former Deputy Commerce Minister Jemama Wolokollie who expressed fear anger that the process would be characterized by fraud on grounds that party Chairman Mulbah Morlu appointed his fellow Lofa kinsman Jefferson Koijee as chairman of the primary committee, while Representative Thomas Fallah considered a presumptive choice of the CDC also from Lofa County.
Madam Wolokollie was dismissed by President George Weah and subsequently expelled by the party after speaking her mind on some missteps in party that its primaries was always marred by hierarchy influence and political interference according her.
But Mr. Worzie seems not to be deterred by the action of the President and the CDC, saying he loves the CDC and will not support any decision that will result to a political disgrace on the part of the party.
Mr. Worzi said he anticipate closing the leadership gap created by the death of fallen Senator Geraldine Doe Sheriff, noting Montserrado county needs a person who understands policy issues and not a noisy senatorial, an apparent reference to Senator Darius Dillon.
Responding to why he declared his intention with a caveat, Mr. Worzi said he believes in participatory democracy and under revolutionary mandate to protect the CDC, vowing not support anyone criminally taken for the party’s senatorial slot.
He noted the delegates at the primary must decide and not by a group of people claiming to own the CDC, saying all partisans including coordinators must have the right to contest.
“The primary must be characterized by transparency and proper vetting through the delegates, former Minister Worzi intoned”.
He cautioned those in charge of the primary that the process must be guided by the principles of true democratic tenants, and not thwarted by those seeing themselves as political demigods of the party and close to the presidency.
According to him, he comes with individual capacity and influence to change a lot on his own as senator, adding a CDC chosen candidate for the senate must be of a strong quality of integrity and record of commitment and not because of ambition.
“That candidate should not be a compromise stalwart with loyalty based on dividends from the party, but one committed to the party, he stressed.”
The former Assistant Information Minister said he was not afraid to express his views and challenged anyone that would attempt to take disciplinary action against him resulting to suspension or expulsion.
“We will to raise the debate on their incompetence and ignorance terming anyone attempting to do so to respect themselves and act accordingly, he vented”.
Mr. Worzi termed as blatant lie news that Representative Fallah is the CDC preferred choice for the pending senatorial race.
