ANC Accuses Unity Party Government Of Prioritizing Party Buildings Over Citizens
By Amos Harris
The Alternative National Congress (ANC) has launched a sharp criticism against the Unity Party (UP)-led government, alleging a disturbing shift in national priorities. The opposition party accuses the administration of investing disproportionately in expanding its political headquarters while neglecting the worsening economic and social conditions facing ordinary Liberians.
The ANC highlights that while Liberians grapple with soaring prices, widespread unemployment, a collapsing health sector, poor infrastructure, and a stagnant economy, the ruling establishment has instead focused its efforts on acquiring and upgrading Unity Party properties nationwide.
The opposition argues this action underscores a government increasingly disconnected from the realities of its people.
The ANC insists that rather than implementing policies to reduce poverty, strengthen market women’s businesses, create job opportunities for youth, or stabilize the prices of essential commodities, the Unity Party’s most visible accomplishment has been the expansion of its political footprint. Such conduct, the ANC contends, represents “self-serving politics masquerading as governance.”
As citizens continue to demand relief from harsh economic conditions, the ANC claims that senior government officials are simultaneously benefiting from:
- Unchecked allowances
- Frequent and unnecessary foreign trips
- Inflated procurement deals
- A troubling pattern of financial opacity
The party asserts that these behaviors reveal a leadership failing in both compassion and competence.
The ANC further noted that public services already in decline are now deteriorating at a faster pace. Specific examples cited include:
- Many communities are facing acute water shortages with the dry season underway.
- The Liberia Electricity Corporation (LEC) is reportedly beginning to ration electricity due to low power supply, compounding public frustration.
“Liberians did not vote for a government that would elevate party interests above national needs,” the ANC asserted. The party is urging the administration to immediately redirect attention and resources toward policies that alleviate hunger, improve public services, and strengthen economic stability.
The ANC stressed that investment in citizens, not in party infrastructure, is what Liberia urgently needs.
“The Liberian people deserve a government that works for them, not one that enriches itself while its citizens struggle to survive,” the ANC concluded, reaffirming its commitment to advocating for the welfare of the population.
