IMS Confirms Of Fraud, Extortion At COVID-19 Testing And Results Processes

Social Media Post

Dr. Francis Kayteh, Chief Medical Officer, Republic of Liberia

The Incident Management System (IMS) says it is aware of several complaints of extortion and fraud in our covid-19 testing and results processes by persons trusted to carry out delicate activities.

The IMS in a social media post said it is taking these complaints seriously and have commenced an internal review.

Below is the social media post

We believe that these complaints, if true, emanate from sample collectors who create new codes and submit different test samples for individuals who have tested positive for covid-19.

As a result, there will be changes to our system aimed at clamping down on fraud. Any staff caught in this process will be immediately dismissed and turned over to the appropriate authority to face prosecution. Individuals caught paying for changed test results are also going to be prosecuted.

We urge everyone to remain calm and cooperate as we tackle this outbreak.

Remember that being infected with covid-19 is not a death sentence when it is identified and treated early by professionals.

We urge the public to continue to follow the safety protocols:

– AVOID LARGE GATHERINGS.

– WEAR YOUR MASK IN PUBLIC SPACES

– PRACTICE SOCIAL DISTANCING

– WASH YOUR HANDS FREQUENTLY

– GET VACCINATED

– GET TESTED IF YOU HAVE SYMPTOMS OF COVID-19 OR HAVE HAD CLOSE CONTACT WITH SOMEONE WHO TESTED POSITIVE FOR COVID-19.
