MONROVIA — Liberia has strengthened its diplomatic presence in Europe following the official accreditation of Ambassador Genevieve A. Kennedy as the Republic of Liberia’s Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Ireland. The formal ceremony took place on July 22, 2026, when Ambassador Kennedy presented her Letters of Credence to Irish President Catherine Connolly at Áras an Uachtaráin, the official presidential residence in Dublin.
Representing President Joseph Nyuma Boakai Sr., Ambassador Kennedy conveyed warm personal greetings and best wishes to President Connolly, expressing hopes for her continued good health and the enduring prosperity of the Irish people.
During her remarks, Ambassador Kennedy reflected on Ireland’s longstanding support to Liberia, particularly during the nation’s civil conflict. She praised the Irish government and its citizens for their invaluable contributions, highlighting the vital role of Irish peacekeepers who served under the United Nations Mission in Liberia to help restore peace and stability.
Furthermore, Ambassador Kennedy expressed deep gratitude for the developmental work of Irish Aid. She noted that Irish Aid has remained a key pillar in Liberia’s post-conflict recovery by funding critical initiatives across agriculture, healthcare, gender equality, and rural development. She described Ireland’s steadfast partnership as a lasting symbol of the strong friendship between the two nations.
In response, President Connolly accepted the Letters of Credence and extended her warm regards to President Boakai as his administration advances Liberia’s national development agenda. President Connolly reaffirmed Ireland’s commitment to strengthening diplomatic relations and expanding bilateral cooperation, emphasizing that Ambassador Kennedy’s accreditation represents an important milestone in the enduring friendship between both countries. She added that Liberia and Ireland share a mutual commitment to promoting peace, sustainable development, democratic governance, and shared prosperity.
Liberia and Ireland have enjoyed cordial bilateral relations for decades, with technical cooperation spanning education, health, humanitarian assistance, good governance, peacebuilding, and rural development.
With her formal accreditation, Ambassador Kennedy is positioned to advance Liberia’s diplomatic and economic interests by fostering strategic trade partnerships, attracting foreign investment, encouraging agricultural and cultural exchanges, and deepening collaboration with Irish public institutions and private sector leaders.
The high-level diplomatic ceremony also featured the presentation of Letters of Credence by the newly accredited ambassadors of Malaysia, Fiji, and the Dominican Republic.
