The Liberian Vice President, Jewel Howard-Taylor who is currently in the Ghanaian Capital, Accra after been diagnosed of respiratory illness has been summoned by the Judge of the Civil Law Court in Monrovia, Judge Kennedy Peabody.
Judge Peabody said the summon of the Liberian Vice President who is also the political leader of the opposition National Patriotic Party (NPP) comes as a result of a Petition for Declaratory Judge filed by the legal tem of the NPP Chairman James Biney and others headed by Counselor Wilkins Wright consistent with Chapter 43, Section 43.1 of the Civil Procedure Law of Liberia.
VP Howard Taylor and others to file their response before August 22, 2020 or risk judgment by default as provided by Chapter 42, Section 42.1 of the Civil Procedure Law of Liberia.
Prior to Judge Peabody’s summon, the petitioners’ lawyer, Counselor Wilkins Wright filed ten counts Petition for Declaratory Judgment, saying that the National Chairman and Secretary of the NPP are responsible for administering and managing the day to day of the Party.
Counselor Wright argued that the convening of all National Executive Committees and National Conventions are regulated by them and not madam Howard Taylor and others, who they considered as ex-officials.
The Petitioners lawyer accused VP Howard Taylor and others of interfering with the ordinary functions of the party by convening meeting and issuing communications in the name of the party which violate the Party 2016 amendment constitution.
