The crazed man who allegedly attacked Paul Pelosi with a hammer at his San Francisco home and fractured his skull was moved from the hospital to county jail Monday, the San Francisco Sheriff’s Office confirmed.
David DePape, 42, was arrested at the scene after breaking into the property of Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi early Friday and searching for the politician, who was not home at the time.
He attacked her husband instead, police say, sending the 82-year-old to the Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital, where he remains.
DePape was also brought to the hospital following the attack, and was booked in absentia, according to local TV station KTVU.
He is expected to appear in court at 1:30 local time Tuesday and is being held in San Francisco County Jail.
DePape will be arraigned on the state charges he faces, which include attempted homicide, first-degree burglary, assault with a deadly weapon and elder abuse, among others.
In addition, he has also been slapped with federal charges for attempted kidnapping and assault with intent to retaliate against a federal official by threatening or injuring a family member — which carry a combined sentence of up to 50 years if he is found guilty.
