AFELL Laments Increase In SGBV Cases
The Association of Female Lawyers of Liberia (AFELL) has strongly condemned the continuous rape and brutal murdering of women and young girls across the Country.
According to the president of AFELL, Attorney Vivian Neal, such acts have sent some of the victims to their early graves and others with psychological wounds that may never be healed.
Speaking at the association Offices in Monrovia, AFELL President Atty Neal, called on the National Legislature, especially the Senate to abandon their quest in making rape an unconditional nonbailable offense.
She applauded the Ministry of Justice for arrests made so far in cases involving rape and murders of women and young girls, but called for speedy trial in order for justice tol be served.
Atty Neal said the death of a woman who was beheaded in zorzor, Lofa county, a wife who was shot by her husband in cow farm zota district Bong county, a 13-year-old girl who was gang raped in Maryland county and a 17-year-old girl who was reported raped and murdered in Gbartala, Bong County are worrisome.
She noted that AFELL stands ready to work with the Ministry of Justice in prosecution of those and other sexual Gender Based Violence cases in Liberia.
The AFELL President is at the same time calling on the entire nation, especially women, young girls and Civil Soceity Organizations to wear bleak this and every Thursday to demonstrate their solidarity and protest against Sexual Gender Based Violence.
She said the association also mourns the death of victims of SGBVs in Liberia and wants those found in such act to desist and see women and young girls as their own for the growth and development of the country.
