Pres Boakai Commends U.S Gov’t For Extending Visas Validity Period To 36 Months
MONROVIA, October 30 — The relationship between Liberia and the United States has been significantly strengthened by a recent U.S. government decision to extend the validity of certain nonimmigrant visas for Liberian citizens.
President Joseph N. Boakai, Sr. has lauded the Reciprocity Decision, which extends the visa validity from 12 months to 36 months for specific visa categories.
In an Executive Mansion release, President Boakai expressed profound gratitude, emphasizing that this “positive step will significantly ease travel, promote business and investment opportunities, and deepen people-to-people ties between the two nations.”
The decision, officially announced by the U.S. State Department on October 29, 2025, impacts several key categories of nonimmigrant visas. Effective immediately, qualified Liberian applicants for the following visas will now receive multiple-entry visas valid for three years, with no attached reciprocity fee:
B1 Visa: For Business travel.
B2 Visa: For Tourism and pleasure.
B1/B2 Visa: For Business/Tourism Combination.
President Boakai sees the new arrangement as a clear indicator of Liberia’s upward trajectory, stating that it “reflects growing confidence in Liberia’s progress and global engagement.” He believes the extension will “open new doors for our citizens to explore educational, cultural, and economic opportunities” while further cementing the bilateral cooperation between the two historic allies.
The Liberian Chief Executive described the move as “a clear demonstration of the strong and enduring partnership between Liberia and the United States, grounded in mutual respect, shared democratic values, and a common vision for progress.”
He further highlighted his Administration’s commitment to aggressively advancing Liberia’s international relations and ensuring Liberians benefit from a more open and inclusive global environment. The three-year visa validity is expected to drastically facilitate greater people-to-people connections, business exchanges, and tourism opportunities between the two nations.
In line with the President’s vision, Minister of Foreign Affairs Madam Sara Beysolow Nyanti affirmed her dedication to the President’s Foreign Policy agenda. She stated that the Ministry will continue to engage the U.S. Government and other governments to further expand areas of mutual cooperation and secure increased benefits for Liberian citizens both at home and abroad.
