Be Self-Motivated, Eschew Pride at Work
– DG Joekai Urges Staff, Civil Servants
By BillK. Jarkloh
The Director-General of the Civil Service Agency has urged civil servants to be “organically” motivated, work with love in activities and eschew hatred at work if they should meaningfully contribute to the nation-building process. Dr. Josiah F. Joekai maintained that one can only be reconciled at work with others in pursuing the common objective of nation building when they are at peace with themselves internally.
The CSA Director General said despite our respective individual problems that could hold us down, we must naturally be at peace within ourselves so that we will be at peace with others in their workplaces irrespective of individual positions, stating that no one can give out to another what he or she does not have.
He made the statement Monday, in a post-Independence Day exaltation during a devotion session with his office staff at the CSA at the Ellen Johnson Sirleaf Ministerial Complex in Congo Town near Monrovia.
Saying that we should learn to show love to one another if we should show love to our country, Dr. Joekai, a devout Lutheran, referred to Roman 12:10 in which Paul wrote, “Be kindly affectioned one to another with brotherly love; in honour preferring one another.” He frowned against pride against one another and emphasized the need for the bosses to respect and work with their staff members and the staff to work joyfully with their bosses without undermining them by smuggling documents and information from the offices.
“When you behave like this, you will be destroying yourself and not only the office, because when you destroy the office, you will have no job,” he counseled.
Dr. Joekai’s comment was backgrounded on the delight he expressed over the natural way Liberians turned out worldwide to celebrate the Independence Day, and stated that such organic celebration of the Independence Day by Liberians is a testament that this administration should not miss out on its agenda of fixing the country.
“Liberians globally were all out there celebrating in their national colors –red, white and blue; some of them sewed suits of the national colors with the star in it. Oh, it was so good and pleasing. This is the togetherness I want civil servants and all Liberians to exhibit,” he added
Meanwhile, his office staff responded to the exaltation positively and assured that they will always endeavor to keep the spirit of togetherness in the workplace.
