Tragic Motorcycle Collision Claims Life of Grand Kru Resident

By Christian Appleton

Juluken, Grand Kru County – July 22, 2025 — A devastating motorcycle accident on Saturday, July 19, has claimed the life of Abel Blamo, a 35-year-old resident of Juluken, Grand Kru County.

According to eyewitnesses, Blamo was returning to his hometown after visiting a family member in Pleebo City when the fatal crash occurred. The accident took place along the main road in Gbolobo Besseken, Pleebo Sodoken District, Maryland County.

Eyewitness reports suggest that another motorcycle, traveling from Grand Kru in the opposite direction and carrying six passengers, veered into Blamo’s lane while approaching a curve. The rider of the six-passenger bike was allegedly attempting to avoid a series of potholes on his side of the road, leading to a head-on collision with Blamo’s motorcycle.

“The impact was severe,” one witness told reporters. “Both bikes collided violently, and everyone involved was thrown to the ground.”

All injured parties were rushed to the Pleebo Health Center for emergency treatment. Tragically, Abel Blamo was pronounced dead upon arrival.

Medical staff at the center stated that the rider of the second motorcycle admitted responsibility for the collision during treatment. However, conflicting accounts regarding his whereabouts following medical care have emerged, and it remains unclear how he left the facility.

The Liberia National Police have confirmed the seizure of both motorcycles involved in the crash and announced that a formal investigation is currently underway.

In the early hours of Sunday, July 20, at approximately 12:00 a.m., a group of local motorcyclists from Pleebo undertook the solemn task of transporting Blamo’s remains to his family in Juluken. Michael Sergbe, head of the motorcyclist team, told FrontPage Africa that they ensured Blamo’s body was delivered respectfully and safely to the grieving family. “He was one of us,” Sergbe said. “It was only right that we brought him home.”

As the investigation continues, residents of both Grand Kru and Maryland counties are expressing deep concern over the rising number of motorcycle-related accidents on poorly maintained rural roads.
