A flight from Hong Kong to Auckland has been diverted to Cairns after a passenger died on board.

The Air New Zealand flight arrived at Cairns International Airport about 2.30 on Monday morning.

A passenger is understood to have died on board the Boeing 787-9, the Cairns Post reported.
