Weah, Boakai Neck To Neck In Election With About 73% Of Preliminary Results Released By NEC On Sunday 15 October
As Liberians anxiously await the final tally for the October 10, 2023 general and presidential elections with the two rivals, the ruling Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC) of incumbent President, George Manneh Weah, and the opposition Unity Party (UP) of former Vice President, Joseph Nyuma Boakai, the National Elections Commission has released the latest provisional results.
Reading the provisional results at the headquarters of the National Elections Commission (NEC) on Sunday, October 15, 2023, the Chairperson of NEC, Madam Davidetta Brown-Lansana announced the below scores of both political parties; the CDC and UP in these elections:
President George Weah *(CDC)* scored: *593,558 vote or 43.80%*
Joseph Boakai *(UP)* got: *589,977 or 43.54%*
Going by provisions of the Liberian constitution, since none of the 20 candidates is likely to score the mandatory *50% + 1 vote* required for an outright victory, the two frontrunners are expected to slug it out in a run-off vote on the second Tuesday after the announcement of the official results of the first round by NEC.
