Two Liberians Arrested For Selling ‘Fake Gold’ In Vietnam

Two Liberian nationals were last Thursday, April 18, 2024 in Hanoi, Vietnam arrested and detained for allegedly selling fake gold bullion amid rising gold prices in Vietnam recently.

According to a local online news platform, https://e.vnexpress.net/ in Hanoi, Swayray Alieu K and Sharba Queshe Baccus were detained by police of Ba Dinh District for obtaining property by fraud. An investigation revealed that the two men had advertised to sell 3 kg of gold on social media for $35,000, but the gold was made out of copper and zinc instead.

They would arrange meetings with victims, where one would deliver the fake gold while the other would wait outside on a motorbike. They demanded victims to give them the money first, and when victims tried to get the gold analyzed for authenticity, they would run away.

Authorities said the duo had swindled $25,000 from victims that way.
