Trump constantly trying to intervene in intelligence agencies: Former federal prosecutor
On Sunday, former FBI director Andrew McCabe gave an explosive interview in which he accused President Donald Trump of trying to manipulate the investigation into Russian interference in the US elections. McCabe also said Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein had offered to wear a wire and the high level officials considered invoking the 25th Amendment to remove Trump from office.
President Trump blasted McCabe as a liar on Twitter. On CNN Monday, former federal prosecutor Elie Hoenig assessed whether McCabe was a credible witness. He pointed out that detailed, contemporaneous notes—which McCabe kept—are the next best thing to a recording, because it’s hard to make things up on the spot.
Plus, McCabe’s claims ring true with the President’s patterns. Since the start of his presidency, Trump regularly tries to interfere in the workings of US intelligence.
“The President cannot keep his hands off the DoJ, he cannot keep his hands off the FBI, he’s constantly been trying to interfere with them. When Andy McCabe says that’s what happened, it rings true with our other experiences,” Hoenig concluded.
