“Suppression and injustice” …Henries Law Firm employees speak out on salary arrears

Some aggrieved workers at one of Liberia’s renowned Law Firms, Henries Law Firm have expressed displeasure over what they termed as the firm’s reportedly failure to pay them salary arrears owed them.

According to the Firm’s Administrative Assistant Richard Barclay, the institution owed them for two years, since September 2016.

In an interview the GNN Thursday at the Firm’s Offices on Benson Street in central Monrovia, Mr. Barclay wonders why the Firm is reneging to settle them when it continues to provide legal services and generating huge sum of money.

“The records at the courts at the Temple of Justice show that Henries Law Firm is attracting big cases and winning, so where is the money going, why we cannot receive our just pay.”

He said after several engagements with the Law Firm’s Managing Partner, Cllr. Cooper Krauh, they are yet to receive their salary, but receive more promises, while they survive on credit.

Cllr. Cooper Krauh currently serves as Minister of Post and Telecommunications is the Managing Partner of Henries Law Firm.

Cllr. Kruah is a prominent son of Nimba County, veteran Liberian lawyer and a defeated Representative candidate for Nimba district # 9 on the ticket of Senator Prince Johnson’s Movement of Democratic Reconstruction party.

Barclay termed the alleged refusal of the Henries Law Firms to pay as suppression and injustice from someone who supports the pro-poor government.

Mr. Barclay lamented they are out patient as the situation continues to cause extreme economic hardship for them.

“My brother we have bear for too long and the firm seems not to be sensitive to our plights, so decided to go public, Barclay said an angry mood.”

According to Henries Law Firm employee, the salary arrears in question is estimated at over hundred thousand United States.

He noted many workers are now working half day due to the level of disappointment in Henries Law Firm to pay them.

“We are about 15 employees, mainly support staff including lawyers, but lawyers are not really pressing the leadership of the firm, he told this outlet.”

He observed that a law firm seeks the interest of others by advocating on thier behalf,but Henries Law Firm is attempting to paint to a completely different picture of the essence of law advocacy.

Mr. Barclay has meanwhile launched an appeal to President George Weah to swiftly intervene to remedy the situation.

Cllr. Cooper Krauh who currently serves as Minister of Post and Telecommunications is yet to respond to the workers’ claims after he was sent couple of text message on the subject matter.

When also contacted, the Chief Executive Office of Henries Law Firm, Cllr. George Henries acknowledged the workers claims, but said he could comment due to pressing domestic engagement.

Henries Law Firm located on Benson Street, is one of the oldest in the country and founded by the late former House Speaker Richard A. Henries, who was among those killed by the military junta led by President Samuel K. Doe, which overthrew the William R. Tolbert presidency in 1980.
