SPORTS: Liberia National Amputee Football Team Appeals For Assistance
The President of the National Amputee Football Association, Cooper George, is appealing to the Government of Liberia to provide financial support in the tone of US$75,000 to enable the national amputee soccer team to participate in the upcoming African Amputee Football Tournament.
The African Amputee Football Cup competition is slated for September 30 to October 14t, 2019 in Angola.
George said failure on the part of the government to provide the needed support will render the amputee soccer team unable to partake in the upcoming soccer tournament.
Speaking in an exclusive interview with the Liberia News Agency (LINA) in Monrovia on Tuesday, George said due to the lack of fund the team has been unable to carry out preliminary preparation ahead of the tournament.
He said it is a matter of must that the Liberia Amputee football team participates in the competition because they are the defending champions.
Since its formation, the Liberia Amputee Football team has captured the Amputee African Nations Cup thrice.
Having won the 2009 edition of the African Nations Cup which was hosted in Liberia, the team clinched the 2011 tournament in Ghana and went on to complete the treble by winning the 2013 edition of the competition in Kenya.
