Southeastern Alliance Decries “Total Neglect” by Unity Party Government, Threatens Political Action

By Christian Appleton

February 23, 2025 – The Southeastern Alliance of the Rescue Mission is preparing to issue a strong condemnation of the Unity Party-led government under President Boakai, citing “total neglect” of the southeastern region. The Alliance expresses deep dissatisfaction with the lack of representation for the Southeast, a key support base for Boakai during the runoff election.

The group’s anger stems from the absence of political appointments for prominent figures from the Southeast, including campaigners and candidates who actively supported the Unity Party.  “The Southeast is completely isolated, neglected, and ignored under this administration,” stated Aaron Collins, a key member and lead campaigner for the Southeastern Alliance. “Even the least educated in the Southeast who supported President Weah in 2017 were recognized and included in the government, but now we are left out in the cold.”

The Alliance highlights the exclusion of key individuals from Maryland County, such as Hon. Nathaniel S. Toe, Hon. John A. Ballout, Jr., Hon. H. Dan Morais, and Hon. Eric W. Gikor, along with numerous other supporters.  Similarly, prominent political figures from River Gee County, including Hon. Conmany B. Wesseh, Chelle Noring, Hon. Bolton Dwehswen, and others, have also been overlooked, according to the Alliance.  They emphasize that not a single representative, senatorial candidate, or passionate campaigner from the region who backed Boakai in the runoff has received a government appointment.

The Alliance has issued a warning: if the government fails to address these concerns by the end of the year, they will take decisive political action.  “We are watching closely,” the Alliance cautioned. “If the Rescue Government does not make amends for the Southeast, we will return to our people and apologize for not listening to their warnings. We will politically reconsolidate moving forward.”

The Southeastern Alliance is currently compiling a comprehensive list of candidates and campaigners who supported the Rescue Mission but are now excluded.  An official statement, accompanied by radio appearances, is forthcoming.  The Alliance hopes President Boakai will heed their concerns and take immediate corrective measures.

This statement sends a clear message that the Southeast, a historically crucial political region in Liberia, will no longer tolerate being marginalized.  The coming months will reveal whether the Unity Party administration will respond to these grievances or face potential political repercussions from the region.
