Dubai police on Tuesday said it was coordinating the extradition to South Africa of Atul and Rajesh Gupta, brothers who face charges of political corruption under former South African president Jacob Zuma.

The two Indian-born brothers were arrested in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), South African authorities confirmed on Monday, almost a year after Interpol issued a red notice last July.

The Dubai police issued a statement saying the force was coordinating with South African authorities on the extradition of the two brothers following their detention.

“The arrest reflects the continuous efforts of the UAE in combating money laundering crimes through local cooperation among the competent authorities,” police said in a statement posted on Twitter.
