Seven Faculty Members from Amos C. Sawyer College Return with Master’s degree
Seven faculty members (Teaching Assistants) from the Department of Demography, Amos C. Sawyer College of Social Sciences and Humanities, University of Liberia, are back in the country after successfully completion of Master of Arts (MA) degree in Population Studies from the Institute for Population Studies (RIPS), University of Ghana Legon.
The seven faculty members departed the country last year to pursue a one-year intensive master’s studies program through the World Bank sponsorship at the University of Ghana Legon. The seven faculties include: Luther P. Whian, Kiafa Ballah, Kessellie Jallah, Ballah Yengbeh, Emmanuel T. Porpeh, Robert W. Kargba, Elsie Yah Paye and Bennie B. D. Wesseh.
The Dean of the Amos C. Sawyer College, Associate Prof. Dr. Josephus M. Gray on Wednesday, December 6, 2023, held interactions with the seven distinguished faculties at the Thelma E. Duncan Sawyer Faculty Lounge, UL Fendall Campus. During the interactions, Dr. Gray on behalf of the President of the University of Liberia, Prof. Dr. Julius Julukon Sarwolo Nelson congratulated the seven faculty members for their incredible success. He described the achievements as incredible milestone and amazing news for the University of Liberia and the nation.
We’re so impressed with the contribution you made to your field of studies. I am deeply appreciative that at Amos C. Sawyer College Faculty and staffs are strongly encouraged and supported to achieve their ambitious dreams.
Speaking further, Dr. Gray said: You pushed your abilities to the limit to make this great success happen; we always knew you could do it in style. According to him, the academic team of the College is proud and pleased with their achievements.
We are so grateful to our faculty-student centered President of UL, Prof. Dr. Nelson for his continued support towards faculty and staffs’ advancement and career development. Presently, about 32 faculty and staffs of our great College are pursuing master’s and doctorate studies in various disciplines abroad. I want to take a movement to recognize the role of the Vice President for Institutional Development, Contracts, Grants and Investment, Prof. Weade Kobbah-Boley and the Vice President for Finance and Fiscal Affairs, Mr. Isaac Garnett. Also, I’m deeply appreciative of the role and support of the chairpersons and coordinators of ACSC.
In his words of appreciation, Dr. Gray applauded the leadership of the Institute of Population Studies (IPS) and Department of Demography, particularly Prof. Dr. Geetor Saydee, Prof. Alfred K. Tarway-Twalla and Assistant Johnson Q. Kei, Chairperson of the Department of Demography for the opportunity given the seven faculties to reach their goals and ambitious dreams.
He told the faculties that since Dr. Nelson took over the affairs of the University of Liberia, almost five years now, the flagship university has strategically positioned itself on a path of new academic trajectory, thus propelling itself far above redemptive glamour. The institution has instead elected to strengthen ties and collaboration with emphasis on academic and development that benefiting the entire institution and the country in general.
The Amos C. Sawyer College promotes the profound values of education including research, writing, reading, essay exams and humanistic inquiry. Since its establishment 162 years ago by the founding fathers of the Republic, the College remains committed to empowering its students with requisite knowledge and practical skills vital to achieving personal and professional success in the changing local and global communities.
