Liberian Senate Clears Minister Tweah Of Financial Misappropriation In Road Fund

The Liberian Senate has come in strong defense of Finance Minister Samuel Tweah over usage of National Road Fund; rubbish reports of financial misappropriation

The Plenary of the Liberian Senate has endorsed its Public Account and Audit committee report on the much publicized road fund saying, there was no misappropriation of road funds money as is it being wrongly insinuated.

The Senate plenary decision was triggered through a motion by Grand Kru County Senator Numene Bartekwa, following votes taken on an investigative report submitted by the Public Account Committee chairman Emmanuel Nuquay of Margibi County.

The committee, in its report, discovered that the Legislature initially approved the amount of 22 million US Dollars in fiscal year 2019/2020 budget, but was reduced in the recast budget during the covid-19 in order to settle pressing government functions.

According to the committee, though it acknowledged some portions of the GAC report, the Road Fund Authority did not involve the Ministry of Finance in addressing the issues raised by the Auditor General before concluding the report.
