In the wake of the commencement of construction work on the Doe Community to Clara Town road, the Citizens United to Fight Corruption in Liberia has publicly commended President George Manneh Weah and the Government of Liberia for steps taken to rescue residents of Doe Community and Cara Town from what they called ‘a bad road situation’ which have caused the residents untold sufferings over the years.
In a statement released this week and signed by the group Secretary General, Herbert S. Fahnbulleh, said this, the attention of the Citizens United to Fight Corruption in Liberia has been drawn to the disdainful and unorthodox manner in which Deputy Minister for Technical Services at the Ministry of Public Works, Mr. Claude Langley handled the US$10,000 given to him by residents of Doe Community for rehabilitation works on the road. It is highly regrettable that since the money was given to Minister Langley no work was done on the road and he has not given the status of the money.
“In view of the aforementioned, the Citizens United to Fight Corruption in Liberia is calling on President George Manneh Weah to initiate an investigation with the aim of retrieving the full amount of US$10,000 from Deputy Public Works Minister Mr. Claude Langley. The act by Minister Langley is a complete disservice to the people of Doe Community and points to broad day corruption for which the Minister must be seriously reprimanded. The government of President George Manneh Weah has openly stated that its activities will reflect on lifting the Liberian people from abject poverty under the PRO-POOR Agenda, and therefore it will be a contradiction to retain the likes of Minister Langley whose actions and behavior pattern does not subscribe to the achievement of the pro-poor agenda.
We want to state categorically that apart from chopping the Doe Community US$10,000, Minister Langley is on record for misapplying thousands of tax payers’ monies on works that have proven unsuccessful overtime. We recalled that Minister Langley headed the drainage repair and/or rehabilitation work in Clara Town opposite RITCO where the drainage usually overflows during the rainy season. It will interest you to note that after months of work, the drainage is still lying incomplete. This is a result of the incompetence of the Deputy Public Works Minister Claude Langley.
This man has no idea in civil engineering and therefore lacks competence when it comes to performing civil works. Former President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf without sufficient due diligence appointed Mr. Langley as deputy Minister for Technical Service at the Ministry of Public Works. It is seriously saddened that President George Manneh Weah will follow suit to reappoint Mr. Langley who is not a civil engineer but rather a landscape engineer (trees and flowers planter) to occupy the position of deputy minister for technical services. Mr. Claude Langley is an embarrassment and by extension an excess baggage to the government and people of Liberia, therefore, he must be replaced immediately with a more qualified and experienced Civil Engineer as the government of Liberia pursues its infrastructural development plan, the statement added.
All efforts to get Mr. Claude Langley via mobile phone and a visit to the Ministry to get his side of the story proved unsuccessful, as our reporter said he could not be reached.
