Rep Richard Koon Accused Of Bigamy, As Original Wife Threatens Legal Action

Ahead of the January 15, 2024 on Monday for members of the 55th Session of the National Legislature will be going to the poll to elect their speaker in furthering their quest for the position, two lawmakers declared their intention.

The two are Grand Kru County District # 2 Representative and Deputy Speaker of the 54th Session of the National Legislature, Cllr. Jonathan Fonati Koffa of the ruling Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC) and Montserrado County District # 11 Representative, Richard Nagbe Koon of the incoming ruling party, the Unity Party (UP)

But one of the candidates in the race, Representative Koon has been tangled with serious marital problem with current wife, may land him into serious lawsuit for marrying another wife without the consent of his current wife whose name is been withheld.

The legal definition of bigamy is a situation in which one person, legally married, enters into a second marriage contract with another without dissolving the first. A person must end a marriage before marrying again, either by death, annulment, or divorce.

According to GNN-Liberia investigation, the Montserrado County District 11 lawmaker few years ago walked out of his marriage without any reason, instead traveled to the United States where he allegedly got marry to another woman without devoicing his legally married wife in Liberia.

However, sources closed to his legal wife family members who spoke to the GNN-Liberia confirmed to allegation, noting that the Representative has reportedly abandoned his family for nearly five years and is currently living with his newly wedded wife.

Some political analysts who spoke to the GNN-Liberia last weekend condemned such action on the part of the lawmaker who is currently opting for the speakership at the National Legislature is not good for that august body, “This House is not people whose characters are tinted, let members of the House who have voting rights to be mindful”, one of the political analysts speaking on the issue noted.

Effort applied by the GNN-Liberia to contact the Montserrad County District 11 to ascertain the facts regarding the allegation proved unsuccessful, however investigation continues
