PLEEBO CITY, Maryland County – In a significant stride toward improving transportation and access to critical roads, Representative Anthony F. Williams of Pleebo Sodoken District #2, in partnership with the Ministry of Public Works, officially launched a major road rehabilitation project on January 30th. The groundbreaking ceremony, held in Pleebo City, signals the start of a transformative initiative aimed at enhancing farm-to-market and residential roads within the Pleebo Sodoken Statutory District.
The event attracted local stakeholders, with representation from both the Muslim and Christian communities, local government officials, business leaders, as well as youth and women’s groups. The broad participation underscored the widespread support for the project and its vital importance to the district’s residents.
In a collaborative effort, Representative Williams has taken the lead in funding critical components of the initiative, including fuel, gasoline, and daily allowances for the expert team overseeing the work. The Ministry of Public Works, in turn, is providing the equipment and technical manpower to execute the project.
Mayor Larry G. Geekor of Pleebo City praised Representative Williams for his steadfast commitment to improving the city’s infrastructure. Reflecting on the longstanding road access challenges faced by the city’s residents, Mayor Geekor remarked, “Today is a colorful and historical day that we have been yearning for. This groundbreaking marks the beginning of road rehabilitation in Pleebo City and the surrounding towns. These roads will bring much-needed relief and facilitate easier access for our people.” The mayor expressed optimism that the project would significantly boost Pleebo City’s infrastructure, enhancing connectivity and quality of life for its residents.
Daniel K. Morsor, Public Relations Officer for the Pleebo Sodoken District Development Council, provided further details on the project’s scope. Originally, the Ministry of Public Works had planned to rehabilitate just 5 kilometers of road within the city. However, through increased efforts and collaboration, the project has expanded to an impressive 34 kilometers of roadwork, significantly raising both the scale and financial investment.
“These plans, which were once proposals, are now becoming a reality,” said Morsor. “What started as 5 kilometers of roadwork has now expanded to 34 kilometers, at an estimated cost of USD 7,500 per kilometer, totaling over USD 255,000, excluding additional expenses. This is entirely the result of Hon. Anthony F. Williams’ dedication, and we are immensely grateful for his leadership.”
Standford Neufville, District Coordinator for Team Williams, officiated the ceremony on behalf of Representative Williams. He emphasized that the initiative aligns with campaign promises made by Williams, including improving water systems, health services, and road infrastructure. Neufville pointed out the pressing need for better connectivity in Pleebo City, which has grown increasingly populated. He also thanked the residents for their cooperation in supporting the project.
Maxwell N. Wesseh, a project coordinator, discussed the technical and logistical aspects of the rehabilitation. While the Ministry of Public Works will manage the technical execution, Representative Williams will oversee the financial obligations. Wesseh urged the community to help by clearing any encroaching structures from the alleyways to ensure the smooth progress of the project.
“This initiative is for the benefit of everyone,” Wesseh noted. “We encourage citizens to fully support this project, as it is designed to meet their daily transportation needs and improve their overall quality of life.”
The rehabilitation work is expected to be completed within 17 days, with key areas set for improvement, including the Grand Public Junction Road to Zones 4 and 3 boundaries, the Zone 1 Mission Town to the Ghanaian Community, and the Pleebo Small Market to Gebio Gate CRC, among others.
Pleebo Sodoken District is on track for a substantial infrastructure upgrade. The road improvements will not only enhance connectivity but are also expected to stimulate local economic activity and provide a better living environment for all district residents.
