LIBERIA: PUL Lauds NEC For ‘Proactive Termination’ Of Its Temporary Supervisor Thomas Bryant

The Press Union of Liberia has commended the National Election Commission (NEC) for the proactive termination of the services of its temporary Electoral Supervisor, Thomas Bryant.

NEC latest action comes in the wake of an assault on Journalist Diamond N. Slanger of Spoon Communication Network while covering the Bio-metric Voters Registration exercise at the Love Valley Academy, with code 30381 in the Airfield Community.

The PUL said such moves are rewarding and aimed at dissuading would be hotheads in the temporary employs of the National Election Commission and others from attacking journalists who visit their polling centers.

PUL urged the NEC to educate its poll workers on the role of journalists during elections and the significant role reporters have to play across the country.

Temporary electoral agents, the Press Union insisted must understand the mutual work of journalists is aimed at promoting an open society where democratic elections are periodically held.

Meanwhile, the Press Union of Liberia has vowed to remain an engaging partner to the National Election Commission throughout the electoral process.
