Monrovia, Liberia – In line with the government’s commitment to fostering transparency, efficiency, and sustainable economic growth, Presidential Press Secretary Atty. Kula Fofana visited and engaged with the Senior Management Team of the National Port Authority (NPA) to discuss strategies for strengthening Liberia’s port sector. The discussions centered on operational improvements, public communication, countering misinformation, and ensuring that port management aligns with national development goals.
During the meeting that was held on Friday, March 14, 2025, Atty. Fofana highlighted the pivotal role of the NPA in driving economic expansion, trade facilitation, and job creation. She underscored the importance of modernizing port operations through infrastructure upgrades, technological integration, and strategic partnerships. Additionally, she stressed the need for robust public communication mechanisms to ensure that accurate information about port operations, tariffs, and national shipping policies is effectively disseminated to the public and stakeholders.
In response to increasing misinformation surrounding port operations, Atty. Fofana emphasized the necessity of a proactive approach to counter disinformation that could undermine public trust and investor confidence. She urged the NPA leadership to strengthen its engagement with media and community stakeholders to ensure that factual, timely, and transparent information is consistently shared.
Speaking on behalf of the NPA leadership, the Deputy Managing Director for Operations Mr. Emmanuel M. Horton, provided a comprehensive update on ongoing initiatives, including plans to enhance security, reduce port congestion, and improve revenue generation. They reaffirmed their commitment to working collaboratively with the government to implement reforms that align with international best practices and enhance Liberia’s competitiveness in the regional and global maritime sector.
Atty. Fofana reiterated that the government remains committed to fostering transparency and accountability in all public institutions, including the NPA. She called for continuous engagement with key stakeholders, including importers, exporters, shipping companies, and the general public, to promote efficiency and fairness in port operations.
