President Weahs Long Stay Abroad May Cripple His Second Term Bid, 2023 Voters Predict
Liberians from all sector of the country are on a daily basis murmuring over the prolong stay of their President, George Manneh Weah who left the country at the end of October 2022, and his still out of the country is receiving on a daily basis huge criticism from the public.
Others including some individuals who claimed to be partisans of the ruling Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC) speaking during series sampling interview with the GNN, condemned the prolonged stay of the president amid hardship being faced with the citizenry.
“The President seems not to be interested in the presidency anymore, his prolonged stay out of Liberia as a sitting president is not healthy for our country; his move simplifies that he is tired”, Nathaniel Q. Freeman, a resident of central Monrovia speaking to our staff noted.
However, others who also spoke to our staff publicly defended the Liberian leader saying he is doing everything to promote his country amongst other world leaders at the just ended Morocco conference amongst others including the witnessing of his son, Tim Weah playing at the World Cup.
“The President’s long stay out of the country is geared towards soliciting global financial support for the growth and development of our country, I support his long stay out of the country”, Abraham K. Johnson of the Borough of New Kru Town speaking about the president’s absence from the country said.
Weah last month extended his stint abroad, the longest since he became president, by another 25 days and is due back in Liberia on December 18.
His government is also facing criticism over its handling of a census that must take place before elections in 2023.
Weah, who came to power in 2017 on a pledge to fight poverty and corruption, has been chosen by his party to seek re-election, but critics say he has failed to honour his commitments.5.
