MONROVIA — In a strategic move to strengthen institutional capacity, President Joseph Nyuma Boakai has nominated Attorney Cornelia W. Kruah as the new Minister of Youth and Sports. She succeeds Cllr. Jerror Cole Bangalu, who has been reassigned to lead the Liberia Refugee Repatriation and Resettlement Commission (LRRRC) as its Executive Director.
The Executive Mansion announced these changes as part of a comprehensive effort to reposition key government institutions to better address emerging national, regional, and global challenges. The realignment signals the administration’s intent to modernize state agencies to meet evolving demands in both the social and security sectors.
A central component of this reshuffle involves the expansion of the LRRRC’s mandate. According to the Executive Mansion, President Boakai is repositioning the commission to respond more effectively to complex migration dynamics. This shift is designed to bolster Liberia’s territorial integrity and enhance the broader national security framework. Cllr. Bangalu, transitioning from his role at the Ministry of Youth and Sports, is expected to spearhead this expanded mission, focusing on strategic migration management, cross-border coordination, and adherence to international protocols.
Attorney Cornelia W. Kruah moves to the Ministry of Youth and Sports with a robust background in executive administration and law. Having previously served as Deputy Minister for Administration at the Ministry of State for Presidential Affairs, Kruah is expected to utilize her administrative expertise to strengthen policy coordination. The Mansion highlighted that her leadership will be pivotal in advancing youth empowerment initiatives and reforming sports governance across the country.
The Executive Mansion emphasized that Liberia is currently at a “pivotal moment” requiring strong leadership and institutional realignment to meet both present and future demands. These appointments represent the President’s commitment to ensuring that the executive branch remains agile and responsive to the needs of the Liberian people.
As mandated by law, these nominations and appointments are subject to confirmation by the Liberian Senate.
