Police Probes Ex-President Sirleaf’s Son, Others In Connection Of ‘Missing’ LD$9 Billion

Following the issuing of a National Security Circular by the Liberian Government advising persons of interest who are required to assist with the ongoing investigation into circumstances surrounding the importation of Liberian dollar banknotes into Liberia between November 2017 and August, 2018, not to leave the country, one of the sons of former Liberian leader, President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, Charles Sirleaf is expected to appear before the police this week, according to information gathered.
Mr. Sirleaf who is also the current Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Liberia (CBL) will appear before a crack team of investigators from the Liberian National Police and the National Security Agency to explain as the facts of the matter; or to give detail on how the money in question is being deposited.
Already, the former executive Governor of the CBL, Milton Weeks appearing on a local radio station today admitted that the container in question which report said contained the LD$9 Billion has been transferred what he called Vault # 2, but declined to name the bank where the reported money is being kept or the vault.
In the circular, the Liberian Government said it takes the ongoing investigation seriously because it has National Security implications, calling on authorities at all points of entry/exit, including land borders, air and sea ports have been directed to take due cognizance of the circular.
