PAL, Partners Hold One-Day Editor’s Forum In Buchanan Friday, September 16, 2022

Mr. Othello B. Garbah, President of the Publishers Association Of Liberia

The Publishers Association of Liberia (PAL) in collaboration with support from the Liberia Media Initiative (LMD) co-financed by the European Union (EU) will on Friday September 16 host a one-day Editor’s Forum at the Buchanan City, Buchanan, Grand Bassa County to review a proposed self-regulation manual on personal data privacy and protection for the Liberian media.

PAL representing owners, managers and editors of newspapers in 2021 received a sub-grant to rollout editor’s forums to discuss personal data protection issues that would ultimately lead to the development of first of its kind media self-regulation in Liberia.

The self-regulation regime adopted to address issues of personal data privacy in the absence of a stand along legislation data privacy.

Fast forward, PAL and the Press Union of Liberia (PUL) this year hired a team of lawyers to develop a stand-alone legislation on personal data protection.

It is against this backdrop that PAL in collaboration with the PUL is hosting this forum in Buchanan to review the draft legislation.

The forum in Buchanan will bring together editors and media managers from Bomi, Grand Capemount, Rivercess and Grand Bassa County. PAL members and PUL officials are also expected to attend the forum.

Consultant lawyers will drill the editors and publishers through the draft regulation.

Meanwhile, PAL regrets to announce the death of one of its Executive Committee members veteran journalist Philip Wesseh following a protracted illness at the John Kennedy Medical Center on the night of Tuesday, September 13. As a result, all newspapers will appear on the market with a black frontpage cover to remember the loss.
