Despite of serious financial challenges faced by the CDC-led Government with the National Port Authority (NPA) been of no exception, the Managing Director of the NPA, Bill Tweahway has publicly bragged of how his administration has drastically increased the workforce of the entity from 300 to 2,000 amid the huge financial problem been encountered.
The NPA boss spoke during the official dedication of a state-of-the-art administrative headquarters office complex of the NPA last Friday, September 18, 2020, and further bragged that his administration has made a tremendous strive in helping to increase the country’s revenue intake, and noted that the employment of 2,000 employees at the NPA has added flavor to the reduction of huge unemployment in the Country.
Some Liberians speaking to the GNN said the statement by the NPA Managing Director of increasing the workforce of his entity from 300 to 2,000 is alarming, sounds scaring in the face of huge financial crisis in the Country, where employees are crying for the irregularities of salary payment at public corporation is becoming overwhelming, questioning the sincerity of the statement by the NPA Managing Director.
Speaking at the program, the Liberian leader, President George Manneh Weah said the structure built on what was known as “Ground Zero” in the Port environment was initiated few months after he toured the facility and prevailed on current Managing Director, Bill Twehway, to change the dynamics of leadership at the port and make history, not only for himself but also for the management and staff of the NPA.
He recounted that it was at this point that he prevailed on Mr. Twehway to do what their predecessors—former managing directors and erstwhile presidents of Liberia—did not do during their respective tenures.
“Ladies and gentlemen, we are here to witness the dedication of another milestone development, the multi-purpose headquarters building constructed by our administration—the first-ever since the Free Port of Monrovia was created and opened in 1948,” President Weah boasted.
He said his administration dream is to change Liberia for the better-to do what no leader before him, has ever done.
He described the milestone project built under two years as momentous in the 72-year existence of the Gateway to Liberia’s Economy, as the NPA is fondly called.
He urged critics of his government to open their eyes to see concrete ongoing developments.
The President pointed out that those who have eyes will see the positive changes, but added that though there are others who turn their eyes the other way and ignore our earnest development strides, stating that the new NPA headquarters is a complete embodiment and representation of real, concrete development.
President Weah expressed excitement for the achievement, which he said is exemplary of the task bestowed on MD Twehway and his team.
He thanked the NPA and the entire management for transforming a mere conversation into a worthy monumental reality.
