Nimba County Administration Condemns Unauthorized Fishing at Lake Teleh

some residents of Sanniquellie have engaged in unauthorized large-scale fishing at Lake Teleh, a historic man-made lake that is being preserved as a key tourism asset for Nimba County. This act is not only illegal but also poses a serious threat to the county’s vision of transforming the lake into an eco-smart tourism destination.

The Nimba County Administration, under the leadership of Superintendent Kou Meapeh Gono, strongly condemns this illegal behavior and warns that any further unauthorized activities at the lake will have far-reaching legal consequences.

Lake Teleh is intended to serve as a sustainable tourism site, contributing to the county’s economic growth and environmental preservation. Any action that compromises this effort will not be tolerated.

In response to this situation, the County Administration is reinforcing measures to protect the Lake and its surrounding areas; citizens are hereby advised to stay clear of the lake’s vicinity unless authorized.

Additionally, the Nimba County Administration is advancing plans to relocate the Sanniquellie General Market to facilitate the proper development of Lake Teleh as part of our broader eco-tourism agenda.

We urge all residents, local leaders, and stakeholders to respect these measures and support the preservation of Lake Teleh for the benefit of current and future generations. The county remains committed to ensuring that Nimba’s natural resources are used responsibly and sustainably.
