The Ministry of Information, Cultural Affairs, and Tourism (MICAT) has initiated a formal investigation into a disturbing incident involving Miss Kindness Wilson, the First Runner-up of the 2022 Miss Liberia Pageant. This action follows the widespread circulation of a video on social media, purportedly showing Miss Wilson engaging in a physical altercation with a female student on the campus of Stella Maris Polytechnic University in Monrovia.

The video, which rapidly went viral, has ignited significant public outrage and prompted calls for accountability. The footage allegedly depicts Miss Wilson participating in a violent confrontation, raising serious questions about her conduct and the standards expected of individuals holding prestigious titles associated with national institutions and pageantry.

During MICAT’s regular press briefing on Tuesday, April 1, 2025, Deputy Minister for Cultural Affairs and Tourism, Kadiatu Dibbs Konteh-Brohiri, addressed the growing concerns. She expressed the ministry’s profound disappointment regarding Miss Wilson’s actions, emphasizing that such behavior directly contradicts the core values and expectations placed upon winners of the Miss Liberia Pageant.

“The Miss Liberia Pageant is intended to showcase individuals who embody grace, dignity, and serve as positive role models for the youth of our nation,” Deputy Minister Konteh-Brohiri stated. “The alleged actions displayed in the video are deeply concerning and require thorough investigation.”

As the governing body responsible for overseeing the Miss Liberia Beauty Pageant, MICAT has officially summoned Miss Wilson to appear before an investigative panel. This panel will meticulously examine the incident to determine whether her conduct constitutes a breach of the terms and conditions associated with her title. The panel will also ensure a fair and transparent process by hearing testimony from the victim, as well as any other relevant witnesses.

The ministry has underscored its commitment to fully implementing the recommendations of the investigative panel, adhering strictly to its supervisory responsibilities. Furthermore, MICAT has reaffirmed its dedication to upholding the integrity and reputation of the Miss Liberia Pageant, ensuring that all its representatives exemplify positive leadership and serve as exemplary role models for young women across Liberia.

The investigation is expected to delve into the circumstances that led to the altercation, the extent of any injuries sustained, and any potential violations of university regulations or legal statutes. The panel will also consider the impact of the incident on the public image of the Miss Liberia Pageant and the broader implications for the role of public figures in society.

The outcome of the investigation, including any disciplinary actions or recommendations, will be made public following the panel’s comprehensive review and final decision. The ministry has pledged to maintain transparency throughout the process, providing updates to the public as they become available. This case highlights the importance of accountability and the need for those in positions of influence to uphold the highest standards of conduct.
