MCSS Superintendent James Momoh Denounces Corruption Allegations as Baseless and Politically Motivated
Monrovia, Liberia – April 17, 2025 – Amidst a flurry of serious allegations of financial misconduct, the Superintendent of the Monrovia Consolidated School System (MCSS), Mr. James Momoh, has vehemently defended his integrity and the work of his administration. In a forceful address at a high-profile press conference held on Wednesday at the MCSS headquarters in Monrovia, Superintendent Momoh unequivocally dismissed the accusations of corruption as entirely unfounded, misleading, and driven by political motivations aimed at obstructing the progress being made within the education sector.
“These accusations are completely baseless and serve only to tarnish my reputation and undermine the dedicated efforts of our administration,” declared Superintendent Momoh, his voice resonating with conviction. “I want to assure the public that I remain steadfastly committed to upholding transparency, ensuring full accountability in all our operations, and delivering quality education to every student within the Monrovia Consolidated School System.”
The allegations, reportedly originating from unnamed sources within the MCSS, paint a disturbing picture of alleged financial irregularities under Superintendent Momoh’s leadership. These claims include the alleged misappropriation of a significant sum of US$1.6 million purportedly allocated for essential classroom furniture and vital laboratory equipment. Furthermore, deeply concerning claims have surfaced regarding the alleged siphoning of medical insurance funds intended for the well-being of students into a private account, purportedly for personal gain, specifically to finance the purchase of a vehicle.
However, Superintendent Momoh categorically and unequivocally denied each and every one of these serious claims. He issued a direct challenge to those propagating these allegations to present any credible evidence through the appropriate legal and investigative channels, rather than resorting to the dissemination of misinformation and defamatory statements within the public sphere.
“Let me be absolutely clear,” he emphasized with firm resolve, “I have not been contacted by the esteemed Liberia Anti-Corruption Commission (LACC) or the reputable Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU) concerning any financial investigation whatsoever. I implore everyone, including media outlets and influential talk show hosts, to diligently fact-check any information before making potentially defamatory statements that can cause irreparable harm.”
Superintendent Momoh also addressed the contentious student insurance policy, providing crucial clarification on its operational framework. He explained that the insurance program, which operates in partnership with the Sky Insurance Company, was established long before his tenure as Superintendent. He further emphasized that under his leadership, a significant improvement in financial management has been implemented: all related payments are now processed directly through the official MCSS institutional account, thereby eliminating any potential for personal dealings or any form of misconduct.
Demonstrating a strong vote of confidence in Superintendent Momoh’s leadership, the MCSS Principals’ Association issued a robust statement unequivocally denouncing the allegations as baseless and misleading. The Association provided factual data, stating that the insurance program currently provides coverage for 17,565 students, directly refuting inflated claims of 100,000 students cited in some reports. The Principals’ Association further clarified the handling of Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) funds, confirming that all such funds are deposited directly into official MCSS accounts. Crucially, they highlighted that all insurance agreements are co-signed by the PTA representatives, the respective school principals, and the Superintendent, ensuring a multi-layered system of oversight and accountability.
“We can unequivocally state that no MCSS official has been summoned by either the LACC or the FIU regarding this matter,” the Principals’ Association asserted in their strong statement of support.
Superintendent Momoh strategically utilized the press conference platform to highlight the significant accomplishments of his administration in its unwavering commitment to improving the educational landscape within the MCSS. He proudly pointed to the successful introduction of modern whiteboards in all classrooms, a move aimed at enhancing the teaching and learning environment. Furthermore, he underscored the ongoing and impactful rollout of the “one student, one chair” initiative, a critical program designed to improve the basic learning conditions and provide a more conducive atmosphere for students.
He acknowledged the strong dedication of President Joseph Nyuma Boakai’s administration to comprehensive education reform, expressing his appreciation for the national focus on this vital sector. However, Superintendent Momoh also issued a cautionary note, emphasizing the importance of vigilance against potential internal sabotage. “President Boakai has articulated a genuine and commendable vision for the national transformation of Liberia,” Superintendent Momoh stated. “However, it is
