Harper City, Maryland County – May 30, 2025 – The Maryland County detachment of the Liberia Drug Enforcement Agency (LDEA) successfully concluded a week-long in-service training program aimed at enhancing the operational capacity of its officers. The training, held in Harper City from May 25 to May 30, 2025, focused on improving investigative and enforcement capabilities in the fight against drug-related crimes.

The initiative, implemented in partnership with the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) through its E-Learning Global Platform, featured intensive sessions on investigative interviewing techniques, basic intelligence analysis, seaport interdiction, risk management, and an introductory overview of smoking and marijuana-related cases.

Special Agent Fred G. Souh, who served as the lead trainer for the program, praised the collaboration between LDEA and its international partners. He emphasized that the training marked a critical step toward professionalizing drug law enforcement efforts across Liberia.

“With this training, we are hopeful that our officers will enhance their investigative capabilities and uphold professionalism in their duties,” Souh remarked during the closing ceremony.

According to the training team, the initiative was significantly driven by the persistent efforts of Maryland County LDEA Commander, Special Agent Moses B. Birr, who advocated for capacity-building support in the region.

The program reflects LDEA’s broader commitment to strengthening its workforce and ensuring that personnel are equipped to address the growing challenge of drug trafficking and abuse in Liberia. As the country continues to confront complex drug-related issues, such targeted interventions are seen as essential in safeguarding communities and upholding the rule of law.
