The Incident Management Team which was established during the 2014 Ebola Virus outbreak in Maryland County has been reactivated in order to holistically combat the deadly COVID-19 in the County in making sure that residents in that part of the country are freed from taken the lives of innocent citizens by the virus.
According to GNN Correspondent in the County, this decision by the County authority was reached following a meeting which held yesterday, May 2, 2020 in the County in order to give more teeth to the currently Management team to tackle the virus in the County.
During the regular update on the prevention of the COVID-19 each Tuesday which brought together partners and stakeholders in the health, including some county authorities, and held at the Harper Administrative Building.
Speaking on behalf of Dr. Methodius George who is the County Health Team of Maryland County his deputy, Dr. Sylvester O. Wheh , Jr. informed said the County Health Team that currently the County has had 50 contacts since the outbreak.
He disclosed that amongst those, 17 were travelers, and one Confirmed Case totaling Seventy (70) persons who have been discharged in May after going through the Quarantine and Isolation period, Dr. Wheh also in the county.
He further informed the partners that Maryland County currently has 1 suspected case that is a lady from Newaken, Grand Kru County and visited the Pleebo Health Center for treatment has shown all the signs and symptoms of the virus, adding, “We have collected her samples and sent it to the National Laboratory awaiting results, currently at the Precautionary observation center, there are four travelers from Ivory Coast who are going through observation,” Dr. Wheh told the gathering.
He said the joint security and the County Superintendent have asked the County Health Team if someone from affected area enter the County, they should be informed, for his party, one of the County’s Senators who is currently in the County, J. Gbleh Bo Brown has appreciated the local county authority headed by George A. Prowd for the level of cooperation in the county especially during the time of Coronavirus.
Senator Brown said his purpose of being in the county is to empower the efforts of the Liberian government during the fight against COVID-19, and further used the occasion to call on all residents of Maryland County to put aside their differences, and joint hands together to combat the spread of Coronavirus, stressing, “I brought some food, and non-food items including Cash to be distributed to Maryland County Health Team, joint security, Religious Community, Physically Challenged Groups, the Media and many others organizations in the county,” Senator Brown told his kinsmen.
Meanwhile, Maryland County Superintendent George A. Prowd on behalf of the People of Maryland County, and extended words of appreciation to the County Health Team and the Senator of Maryland County who identify with Marylanders during this time of the deadly Coronavirus pandemic.
