Maryland County Health Team Boosted by New Nursing Dormitory and Resident Apartment Groundbreaking

Maryland County, Liberia – March 6, 2025 – A significant leap forward for healthcare in Maryland County was celebrated as the County Health Team unveiled a newly renovated nursing dormitory and broke ground for a Family Medicine Resident’s Apartment building at JJ Dossen Hospital.

These projects, funded by Partners In Health (PIH), signal a strong commitment to enhancing healthcare infrastructure and improving the living conditions for medical professionals in the region.

The newly renovated eight-room nursing dormitory will provide a much-needed upgrade in living conditions for nurses at JJ Dossen Hospital.

This improvement aims to create a more comfortable and conducive environment, fostering better morale and ultimately contributing to enhanced patient care.

Simultaneously, the groundbreaking ceremony for the Family Medicine Residents’ Apartment marks a pivotal step in strengthening medical training within the county.

The new apartment complex will provide essential housing for medical trainees, encouraging the development of skilled healthcare professionals who will serve the community for years to come.

The ceremonies at JJ Dossen Hospital brought together key stakeholders, including Maryland County Health Officer (CHO) Dr. Siedoh Freeman, JJ Dossen Hospital Medical Director Dr. Bill Davis, PIH Chief Medical Officer Dr. Joia Mukherjee from Boston, Maryland County Superintendent Hon. Henry Cole, and Dr. Maxo Luma, Executive Director of Partners In Health Liberia.

Dr. Siedoh Freeman underscored the government’s unwavering dedication to improving healthcare infrastructure nationwide. He emphasized that these projects are integral to creating a better environment for healthcare professionals, directly translating to improved care for the residents of Maryland County and beyond.

Dr. Maxo Luma of PIH Liberia reiterated the organization’s commitment to advancing medical education and healthcare delivery.
