BUCHANAN |LINA | The Grand Bassa County detachment of the Liberia National Police (LNP) has arrested a man identified as James Saah for allegedly attempting to murder his wife.
Saah was picked up by LNP officers a day after he reportedly cut off the ears of his 48 year-old wife, Annie Karmue.
Suspect Saah and spouse Annie reside in Berber Camp, a community in the Liberia Agricultural Company (LAC) concession area in Electoral District #4 in Grand Bassa County.
According to police report, the alleged chopping of Annie’s ear occurred on Monday, July 21, following a fist fight between the couple at their Berber Camp residence.
The victim was seen lying on her bed in a pool of blood and was instantly rushed to the LAC hospital by relatives and community members.
At the hospital, Annie told the police investigative team that her husband had earlier accused her of being a witch, who turns into an animal and eats their farm rice, something that led to the fisticuffs.
“While asleep, I noticed that one of my ears was cut off; so I fought hard to escape after noticing that it was my husband who did this to me; but James could not allow me and kept chopping me all over my body with the sharp cutlass,” she narrated in pain and tears.
The victim, who is still admitted at the LAC hospital, l further explained that suspect Saah immediately escaped with the cutlass in his hand upon noticing that she was almost dead.
The police immediately launched a search and arrested him.
This is occurring at a time that Liberians and partners are hailing the National Legislature for passing the “Domestic Violence Act” for increased protection of women and girls as well as men in their homes and the country. This Act is now awaiting ’feminist’ President Weah’s approval.
Suspect Saah is currently behind bars awaiting court trial.
It can be recalled that 35 year-old Sundaygar Willie was sentenced to 25 years at the Upper Buchanan Prison for beating his 48 year-old wife to death in Bacconie Community near the Arcelor Mittal Liberia concession area in Buchanan.
