LNP Suspends Two Officers, Launches Further Probe into Capitol Hill Vehicle Incident and Alleged Theft
(Monrovia, Liberia – March 24, 2025) The Liberia National Police (LNP) has announced the suspension of two officers following an investigation into the unauthorized entry and opening of a vehicle parked at the Capitol Building and has called for further investigations into allegations of significant theft.
The LNP’s Professional Standards Division (PSD) concluded its inquiry into the incident involving a gray Nissan Jeep, without license plates, parked under the Representative’s Wing canopy on Tuesday, February 18, 2025. The investigation focused on allegations of police impropriety, specifically concerning the unlawful entry and opening of the vehicle.
As a result of the PSD’s findings, the following disciplinary actions have been taken:
* Chief Inspector of Police Frank P. Banda (ID# 5396): Suspended without pay for two months for unlawfully entering the vehicle.
* Sergeant Sam C.F. Karbah (ID# 4248): Suspended without pay for one month for unlawfully opening the vehicle.
The investigation was initiated following a report by Honorable Yekeh Y. Kolubah, who claimed that US25,000.00 (Twenty-Five Thousand United States Dollars), 2,000,000.00 LRD (Two Million Liberian Dollars), a computer, an iPhone, and jewelry valued at US2,500.00 (Two-Thousand Five Hundred United States dollars) were missing from the vehicle.
In addition to the suspensions, the PSD has recommended the following further investigative actions:
* If any connection is established between the suspended officers and the reported theft, the matter should be referred to the Crimes Services Division for a comprehensive investigation.
* Jack Traore, who reportedly drilled the driver’s side door of the vehicle, should be invited for questioning.
* An in-depth investigation should be conducted involving individuals seen in video footage related to the incident, to determine any connection to the missing items.
The Liberia National Police, through Spokesperson DCP. Cecelia G. Clarke emphasized its commitment to transparency, accountability, and professional integrity. The LNP has asked for the public’s continued patience and understanding as they pursue further investigations into this serious matter.
