Liberians Still Keen For ‘Missing L$16 Billion’ Findings, As Unusual News Overflows

Huge Liberian Dollars Bank Note

Several Liberians who spoke to the GNN over the weekend are wondering why the delay in submitting the findings from the committee setup two months ago by the Liberian leader, President George Manneh Weah to probe the alleged missing Sixteen Billion Liberian Dollars.

Some of those speaking in an interview with our reporter, observed that the unusual happenings nowadays including the arrest, detention and suspension of three officials of the National Housing Authority (NHA), and the alleged misappropriation of Twenty-Five Million United States Dollars by the Minister of Finance, Development and Planning are said to be overshadowing the issue of the missing billions.

“The news of the missing billions is gradually disappearing, something else is taken its place, Liberians are noted of taken things more serious at its early stage and is forgotten after few months; this is the case of the missing sixteen billion Liberian dollars,” Jasper Sonpon of Monrovia speaking to the GNN in Monrovia recently said.

Others who spoke on the issue of the missing money, questioned the sincerity of the committee setup by the President to investigate those linked to the missing billions nearly three months ago, and are yet to release the findings of their investigation is creating serious concern amongst Liberians.

“We will not forgive this Government if it fails to bring to book those linked to the missing money, and allow this to be dropped in the dirt bins to be forgotten as usual.   This government must publicly come out and clear the air about this money,” Rebecca Toe of Bushrod Island in a chat with our staff cried out.

Recently members of the House of Representatives ordered the arrest of the Publisher of The Hot Pepper Newspaper, Mr. Philipbert S. Browne, the paper that uncovered the missing billion after he failed to appear before that body on two occasions to speak to them about the alleged missing sixteen billion Liberian dollars.

Earlier, Mr. Browne in his paper, the Hot Pepper, said the House of Representatives’ call, inviting him to appear before them was not faceable, and noted that it is only the Court that will invite him to appear and he will appear.

Meanwhile, a cross section of Liberian is still calling on the government to see reason in informing the world adequately about the alleged missing billions.
