Liberian Senate halts salary harmonization plan

Senate Pro-Temporal, Albert Chie

The Liberian Senate has mandated the Finance Ministry to halt all salary cuts of civil servants currently ongoing at various government institutions.

The decision followed a communication submitted to Plenary Tuesday, August 27, 2019, by Gbarpolu County Senator Armah Jallah.

In his communication, Senator Jallah requested the Finance Ministry to submit government’s salary harmonization plan, inclusive of the three branches of government and autonomous agencies.

Meanwhile, several Senators in Tuesday’s Plenary took exception to the issue of the salary harmonization. They argued that the salary harmonization plan is still a proposal and as such, it should not be effective until the budget hearing is completed and passed.
