Mr. Nathan W. Biah, Sr. National Chairman of the Board

GANTAL – United Nimba Citizens Council (UNICO), an umbrella organization of Nimba citizens residing in the Americas, has disclosed that the construction of a women empowerment center tops the agenda at its convention on May 24 this year in Philadelphia, the United States of America.

The UNICO forum will run from May 23- 25 and is its 50th General Convention slated to be held in the State of Philadelphia.

It will seek to design ways and means to move the organization forward, look at its successes and failures, strengths and weaknesses and elect a new corps of officers to steer the affairs of the institution for the next four years.

Speaking to LINA via telephone from the United States, an executive of UNICO, Mr. Dahn K. Dennis, said all is now set for the 50th General Convention, noting that most of this year’s convention activities will focus on the conclusion of a fundraising initiative to construct ta multi-purpose women empowerment center in Nimba County.

According to Dennis, the organization has been involved in this fundraising initiative for more than a year now and that discussion on how to embark on the project with the support of every citizen of Nimba will be held during the convention.

He said the estimated budget for the project is a little over two hundred thousand United States dollars, noting that the funding is being raised by citizens of the county residing in the US for the sole purpose of identifying with their kinsmen back home.

“We are raising this amount ourselves for the purpose of constructing a place where our women would be able to gather and learn something that will make them productive in their respective homes and communities,” Dennis pointed out.
