LIBERIA: Three Sentenced For Gang Rape in Grand Gedeh
ZWEDRU, July 2 (LINA) – The Judge of the 7th Judicial Circuit Court in Zwedru, Gedeh Gedeh County, Koboi K. Nuta, has sentenced three men for gang raping a 22-year-old woman in Gwein Town in the county.
Levi Toe, Honest Kai and Milton Parjibo, Jr. were each sentenced to six years in prison.
Between the hours of 9:00 and 11:00 a.m. in March 2019, Toe, Kai and Parjibo gang raped the victim (name withheld) who had gone to sympathize with a friend for the loss of her relative.
While there she joined her friends in drinking alcohol during which she became drunk.
The convicts, knowing that she was drunk, took her to a house and raped her one after the other.
The defendants, after committing the crime, began telling people in the town about the act, including one of the victim’s Uncle Stanley Kahn, that “they had sex with the lady while she was drunk and that they really enjoyed it.”
The issue was brought to the attention of the Chief Elder of Gwein Town, who invited them for a hearing during which they admitted committing the crime in the presence of many people.
The victim was taken to the Martha Tubman Memorial Hospital in Zwedru after she started bleeding. She was tested and the result proved that she was tampered with.
Levi Joe and Honest Kai were arrested by the Liberia National Police and referred to the Women and Children Protection Section of the LNP in Zwedru, while Milton Parjibo is presently at large.
Parjibo, who is on the run, will serve the same sentence upon his arrest beginning from the day of his arrest.
During the trial, the victim was represented by Atty Isaac B. William, Grand Gedeh County Attorney, while the defendants were represented by Grand Gedeh County Public Defender, Atty G. Matt Karnga
