Spark Liberia, a local nongovernmental organization recommits to boosting smallholder agriculture and programs businesses…concludes a two day Start up business promotion and recruitment Training in Grand Kru County.
Some fifteen owners of smallholder businesses in Grand Kru County have benefited from a two day Start up business promotion and recruitment training in Barclayville city.
The business training was organized by Spark Liberia, a local non government organization which targets six thousand, six hundred smallholder farmers, with ten existing agriculture business and twenty Startups in two hundred and twenty communities.
Speaking at the close of the training, Spark Country Manager Samson Wonnah pledged renewed commitment to improving and supporting smallholder agriculture program ad businesses across the country.
Mr. Wonnah said the objective of partners programme is intended to improve the productivity and sustainability of nutrition sensitive agriculture at the level of smallholders’ farmers.
In a chat with GNN Liberia, Wonnah said the training is part of activities under the partners’ programme, a five year agriculture funded by the European and implanted by the consortium of four nongovernmental organizations.
“We stressed our focus on the agriculture and smallholder business value chain because it is of significance from the production on the field to processing and then to the consumers.
He named NGO’s as ZOA, Wethungerlife, Concern Worldwide and Spark Liberia which focuses interested businesses to support the value agriculture chain, adding that crops like cassava, plantain, Pineapple, Moringa and Legume are considered under the project for promotion.
The Spark Liberia Country Manager said the training also seeks to recruit entrepreneurs and start up business people after which assessment is conducted before grants are provided to support and improve on their businesses and agriculture programs.
Mr. Wonnnah expressed delight over the turnout of businesses in Grand Kru County, noting it was the organization’s first visit to the Southeastern County unlike other counties where it covers.
According to him, Sinoe, Bomi, Grand Cape Mount, Margibi, Rivercess and Grand Bassa in counties where the Spark partners programs is been implemented for the duration of five years from 2018-2022.
Mr. Wonnnah outlined topics dealt with at the Start Up Business Promotion and Recruitment Training as introduction to entrepreneurial thinking, How to develop business ideas, introduction to Marker Research, characteristics of entrepreneurs among others.
At the close of the training at the Silver Hotel in Barclayville, some of the beneficiaries praised Spark and her partners for the exercise aimed at improving and supporting their businesses.
The participants promised that the education acquired from Spark will go a long way reshaping their businesses to a new level through different innovations.
” It are so much appreciative because it the first of its kind for a local NGO organized such training exercise for smallholders agriculture people and businesses to sharpen their skills on how to establish, manage and improve business thoughts, the participants explained”.
